'Overmedicalisation'
Draft notes for post under construction.
I know I am an extremely rare person in the medical profession (30 years). I know that an obsessive, verging on hysterical attitude to every perceived ‘illness’ , disease or syndrome that we consider ‘unhealthy’ is doing more over all harm than good. Most people - including all mainstream medical people and non mainstream practitioners are trapped in an ever expanding vortex of test, find a cure and treat. It seems all the middle classes ever talk about now days. And rationing of treatment due price constraint or ‘inadequate’ provision of medicine seems to leave half the population with a grudge: ‘I’m entitled but they’re stopping me’. I know this is all doing more harm than good - leading to measurable negative outcomes. (If they ever did that research that’s not in the interest of mainstream/non mainstream practitioners!).
I’m also expert on the environment, especially on how each and every atom and molecule we inadvertently introduce will have some negative effect on the life cycle of some or other creature in the food chain. Over use of treatments main/non mainstream effect the environment as recent major water testing studies have shown. Thus I am going to try to write up my 30 year insider’s thoughts on how to break this cycle. And I don’t care what anybody else thinks - I know my onions and have also dedicated years of my life to rescuing people from either death or lifetime serious disability. ( Just one of many heretical opinions I will expand on is this week new policy sending cervical cancer test kits out to everyone who hasn’t been in for the smear. I don’t feel is an overall good - I will expand on this later).
I’m pretty sure that when David Attenborough tells you all of the amazing beauty in nature, but also for the last couple of decades telling us the damage we are doing to it with such authority and success he does feel a bit of joy, he may be making a bit of difference. I know I will also feel some joy improving this conversation - even if only one person ever takes it in. It's still to my long held inner philosophy only a worthwhile message to attempt.

I know that I, Asil am in a very small minority of people in that if i was told myself, or if a friend of mine was told they have some or other condition. I would first think - is this to do with my mind - and secondly, if faced with a treatment suggestion - is this really necessary or can it be fixed in a more natural way - and I don’t mean ‘alternative’ medicines. I mean simple healthy lifestyle changes such as walking more, getting more sunshine, better sleep etc.
I would not be surprised if many of these conditions we are told we have, are not a lifetime thing but just a phase. Today is the 26th June and I will be expanding on this in the next few days.
Many people, myself included have ‘issues’ with their bladder and frequent need to urinate. This has been named as ‘sensitive bladder’ or ‘hyper-frequent urination’. This has been said to be age related or caused by an exact pathogen, but I know that things like this could merely be a phase that could almost be partly natural. It wouldn’t be natural for perhaps a 30 year old to have urinary issues but it may be a phase that people go through as they age an reach their 50’s & 60’s, and not necessarily something that will get worse due to age.
Many of the food in tolerances people suffer from could be a phase. Maybe something switches in the mind. This can be caused by a trauma or run along side a difficult period in someones life. For example an old man, who had been through a child custody battle (which he won), said it was the worst thing he had encountered in his life, even compared to a severe accident he’d been involved in where he was driving. This year had been worse than ever and he started to become hyper sensitive to his own body smell. He thought, oh no, this is it now for life. Attracting a new partner would be impossible as they would be put off by his body odour. The sort of thing that a support group would be set up for on facebook, and named as syndrome for life. But it simply went away after a while.
Synesthesia is the new ‘trendy’ condition to have but maybe its only a phase. Nobody has done any research to check this, and why? because so many people are desperate for their ‘diagnosis’ and once they have this an expert in Harley street can charge large sums of money for a consultation and treatment instead of doing a weeks work in the NHS. Following comes the alternative medicines, who can also jump on and make a fast buck, the voodoo cures.
We are completely aware that conditions like thrush are just a phase, it comes and goes, so why not other conditions. The herpes virus can remain in the body for years and can simply come and go during a lifetime.
My own mother was diagnosed with polymyalgia, resulting in muscle aches and weakness all over the body, and told, this is presently an incurable lifetime condition. The treatment is a continuous course of steroids. She decided to say, ‘No!’ to the Doctor. I don’t want to take steroids I will deal with this my own way. Within 6 months, she no longer had the problem.
Menopause is absolutely a phase and not a lifetime thing, we know this for a fact, but we are now medicalising it. I myself was taking HRT for 18 months but over the last month have begun to ween myself off it. I am hoping that this overall will actually make me feel so much better, hopefully realising that I don’t actually need it plus the added bonuses that I am lessening the strain on the NHS resources, plus, reducing the effects on the environment.
I know, it is a blessing in disguise to be prevented from having a drug
Basic screening can play a part in a natural objective attitude to our own health. But over testing, the sending out of cervical cancer test kits to every female with a cervix aged 25 to 64, for example is more likely to cause a mass hysteria and cause people to become neurotic about their health, never mind the consequences of yet more plastics and materials required to create these kits, adding to our growing pollution.
Pollution of mind, body and the earth.
